Details of your safari
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park and Ihema Boat Cruise.
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali to transfer to Akagera national park where you will arrive in time to embark in an early morning game drives that will give you the chance to watch a number of game animals especially the herbivores like the elephants grazing within the plains, the rhinos, you will also get to see a number of remarkable views for the park and a number of rewarding attractions after your game drive you will transferred to the lodge for lunch and refreshments and later on participate in the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species like the endangered shoe bill stork, African King fishers catching their prey from the Lake that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Day 2: Early morning game drive and transfer to volcanoes NP.
Rise up early and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals like the herbivores, the big five animals in Rwanda which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill. After the game drive, return to connect with your driver guide to embark on your transfer back to Volcanoes national park via Kigali. You will have lunch from Kigali and continue to Ruhengeri town for the night in anticipation for the gorilla trek the following day. Dinner and overnight will be at Davinci Hotel (budget)
Day 3: Gorilla trek in Volcanoes National park
Gorilla Trekking: Have a light breakfast and grab your packed lunches and set out to the park headquarters at 7 am to get the morning brief before your trek on what to expect, the do’s and don’ts and also get a chance to book your porter and all the hiking gear you may need. Set out into the forest in search of the gorillas. Trek with the rangers for about 2 to 7 hours according to the location of the gorillas. Once you meet these endangered animals, you will be allowed 1 hour to enjoy their presence and it is in this magical hour that you get to take photos and study the lifestyles of the mountain gorillas in their families as they go about their daily routines. Connect back to your accommodation for a late lunch and spend the evening at leisure. You may take on an optional community visit or cultural tour if you are feeling energetic. Get back to the lodge before the sun sets and have dinner and overnight as the night before.
DAY 4: GOLDEN MONKEY TREKKING
After a safety briefing, you’ll be driven to the start of the trail you’ll take to reach the golden monkeys. Your trekking guide will be in radio communication with the trackers locating the golden monkeys, and will lead you along generally clear paths to the edge of the forest, at which time you’ll then be moving through more dense vegetation. The duration of your trek depends on the location of “your” golden monkey group. The monkeys can cover a fair amount of distance daily, so it can sometimes take a while for the trackers to locate them. Once you’re with the golden monkeys, you’re allowed an hour, maximum, with them before heading back.The two groups of habituated monkeys are getting more used to their human visitors, so don’t be surprised if they jump quite close, and be aware of standing directly underneath a group in the trees, as little “presents” can drop down at times
Day 5: Dian Fossey Museum visit and transfer back to Nyungwe
Dian Fossey Hike & Departure: After breakfast, set out to your 2-hour drive to Kigali with an enroute Dian Fossey museum visit where you will spend about 2 hours learning about the famous gorilla lady with artifacts that belonged to her along with an impression of the Virunga ranges. This is a thrilling walk through the museum and drive southwards to Nyungwe forest National park watching a number of rewarding attractions like the rolling hills of Rwanda, the homesteads and so on. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch enroute. After lunch, you head After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you there after connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will head to Nyungwe park headquarters where you will make your way to either cyamudongo forest or Nyungwe forest where you will access the habituated chimpanzee troops. The activity takes about 3 hours which will give you the opportunity to watch a number of rewarding features of the chimpanzees in the wild like; they will be seen chattering, laughing, you will get to observe the females’ red bottoms during ovulation which is a sign that they are ready to mate with the males among other interesting features. After the rewarding experience, you will then return to your hotel to freshen up, have lunch then spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing at your hotel. You can also participate in the community tour to help you understand more about the culture of the people of Rwanda by visiting the cultural group where you will be entertained by their traditional dances, you will watch how they prepares their local dishes and many other interesting features off the cultural groups.
DAY 7: TEA ESTATE TOUR AND DEPARTURE
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up by your guide who will then participate in the tea estate tour which will give you the chance to watch how the tea is harvested you will also participate in the harvesting process, how it is made among other interesting features at the estate. After the rewarding safari, head back to your hotel for dinner and overnight at Dinner and overnight at Gisakura guest house (budget accommodation) Nziza lodge (mid-range accommodation)
