Notably, there are so many options when it comes to the kind of safari that one can take, and each is distinct in one way or the other. But it should be noted that the price of a safari may be relatively cheap or very expensive depending on the type of experience you are willing to receive, and the area that you want to be taken to. Here are some affordable places to visit on a Rwanda wildlife safari
The facilities for tourists include Akagera National Park, Iby’iwachu Cultural Village, Nyungwe Forest National Park, and Volcanoes National Park. Despite this, each one of these places has a number of factors that set it apart making it a place of interest. If what you’re looking for is the ‘real’ African safari feel, however, chances are you will need to visit more than one of the places listed above. You may also wish to package a tour of one park with accommodation at one of the affiliated lodges or nearby hotels. If, however, you have a penchant for extensive holidays and you want something more than just an animal encounter without having to go too far afield this is ideal for you.
Akagera National Park
Situated in the northwest of Rwanda which is on the border of Tanzania, Akagera National Park is home to a wide range of beautiful ecosystems and animals. It is home to a large elephant population and while on a game viewing tour in this park, one can easily spot a leopard, one of Africa’s most elusive large cats. It also has many lakes, streams, and rivers with bird’s nesting valleys and some wild animals dwelling on its surfaces. Because of the assembled microclimates and outstanding populations of the big beasts of the civilized savannah, people also call it “a mini Africa. ”
Nyungwe Forest National Park
Sited only slightly more than an hour’s drive southwest of Kigali, Nyungwe is one of the largest tracts of ’unlogged’ forest left in East Africa. It also has more than 300 species of birds, some primates, reptiles, amphibians, and some other animals. A lot of activities can be carried out in Nyungwe Forests and some of them include; rainforest nature and canopy walk, an aerial walkway over the Nyungwe rainforest which stretches as many as 200 meters over the ground!
Volcanoes National Park
Sitting on the side of Rwanda’s border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and on the shores of Lake Kivu, the Volcanoes National Park is host to numerous plants and animals of interest. It is most famous for the mountain gorillas which dwell in the forests of the volunteering surrounding volcanoes. Tourists are usually privileged to see any of the gorilla groups going about their schedules in the countryside of the park. There is also a research station of the park where visitors can gain more information on what the researchers, who study the mountain gorillas and other endangered species, in the park, are doing.
Iby’iwachu Cultural Village
Iby’iwachu Cultural Village is a living museum located in the southwestern part of Rwanda on the shores of Lake Kivu. The people of the village have for centuries been able to carry out their tradition and they have been very determined in ensuring that their future generations emulate them. Everyone who gets interested in the culture and history of the village will be able to take a guided tour of the village or go round the village on their own.
