Touring Inema Art Centre in Kigali Rwanda : Visiting Inema Arts and Crafts Village is a unique opportunity to see the creative side of Rwanda. Located in the rural countryside, Inema is a place where art and creativity are celebrated. Not only does the village display beautiful handmade arts and crafts for sale, but there is also a restaurant and a souvenir shop where visitors can purchase some of the unique products found in the village. The center was founded by two painters: Innocent Nkurunziza and Emmanuel Nkuranga, in 2012. It is a non-profit organization that provides training and exhibition opportunities for Rwandan artists. It also hosts workshops for children, as well as photography competitions and art classes for adults. Some of the artists who have participated in exhibitions at the Inema Art Center include Leonard Mugabo, Gilbert Rwabukumba, and Jean Claude Kwizera. Visiting the Inema Arts and Crafts Village is a great way to learn about the rich artistic traditions of Rwanda. It’s also a great place to pick up souvenirs and unique gifts for friends and family back home! Texturing offers a means of enhancing the appearance of natural objects such as leaves, wood, or cloth. In the past, texturing was done using paints or dyes, but today many textures can be created using computer software programs. Texturing can be used to create a “rough” or “worn” appearance on an object.
How to Get To Inema Art Centre and Art Gallery, Kigali Rwanda
From Kigali city center, take a taxi to Nyamirambo. A taxi will cost approximately $2 US. Exit from Kigali city at the 3rd Stop light heading toward Kibuye. Drive for 3km and make a left turn at the first traffic light. On the Avenue des Martyrs, turn right at the intersection with the roundabout and drive up the hill past the Canadian Embassy to the 2nd traffic light.
Make a right turn at this light and continue on this road for approximately 4km until you reach another intersection. Make a left at the intersection and continue straight for about 1km. You will come to the village of Ihema-Ihema. Take a left at the intersection and continue driving down the main road through the village until you reach the school on your left. Take the dirt road immediately after school and park behind the school. Walk toward the red building in the distance. This will be the home of the Inema Arts Center and Art Gallery.

Aside the creative tour to Ihema Art Centre you can also try some other adventurous activities within Kigali City either before or after your visit to the art center. Below are some of the places you can visit while in Kigali (and free). But there is one activity you should not miss while in Rwanda: meeting the gorillas in Volcanoes National Park (about an hour away). Hiking up through the Virunga volcanoes is an unforgettable experience that should not be missed while visiting Rwanda. Those short three hour treks through gorilla forests are considered one of the best times you can spend in Africa!
