Detailed Itinerary for 14 Days Rwanda Uganda Safari

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our representative from Explore Rwanda Tours. After a brief meet and greet session, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kigali city.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After having your breakfast, check out of your hotel and head out for a half-day city tour where you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial center, the Kimironko market, and Nyabo farm. You will get to learn more about Rwanda’s rich historical and cultural heritage. Have lunch and embark on a 6-hour drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Upon arrival in Nyungwe, check into your lodge and later have dinner.

Day 3: Primate Tracking and Canopy Walk with Zipline Experience

Have breakfast early in the morning and drive to the park’s briefing point for the briefing. Primate tracking activities in Nyungwe commence at 5 am every morning and usually last 3 to 5 hours, depending on their location. Once you have located a group of black and white colobus monkeys, you will be given an hour to spend monitoring the primates as they feed, play, and communicate with each other. Have your packed lunch and relax for a while.

Later, you will embark on a 2-hour hike along the canopy walkway bridge. Get a chance to have panoramic views of the park’s forests, surrounding attractions, and primates jumping from one tree to another. This will be combined with a zip-lining experience that will take you across deep, narrow, and steep-sided valleys with a chance to spot colobus monkeys and hornbills making their nests.

After a day filled with thrilling adventure, head back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park- Visit Ibyi’wacu Village Tour

After breakfast, you will drive to Volcanoes National Park, which is approximately a 5-hours’ drive from Nyungwe Forest National Park. Have lunch en route and upon your arrival in the park, check into your lodge and rest for a while. Later, you will head out to visit Ibyi’wacu village for a cultural experience. You will visit the former king’s palace, dress in traditional attire, and take part in traditional dancing alongside the famous intore dance troupe.

Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking and Visit Dian Fossey Museum

Have an early breakfast meal before heading to the park’s briefing point in Kinigi. You will be briefed by the park’s head ranger and then placed in a group and assigned to a golden monkey family. You will also be given a park ranger and guide who will be accompanying you on your trekking experience. Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park takes approximately 1-3 hours, depending on their location. Once you have located the primates, you will get to spend an hour watching and studying them. Head back to your lodge for lunch and relax for a while.

Later in the afternoon, you will drive to Karisoke center for a tour of the Dian Fossey Museum. The center was formerly used as a research base by the late Dian Fossey and her team. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park- Batwa Cultural Experience

Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast at your lodge before embarking on your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which takes between 5 and 6 hours with a stopover for lunch en route. Upon your arrival in Bwindi, check into your lodge and relax for a while. Later in the evening, head out for a cultural experience where you will be visiting the neighboring Batwa communities. Interact with the friendly locals and learn more about their cultural history as you are entertained by them.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Have breakfast early in the morning and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be briefed by the park’s head ranger and then placed in a group and assigned to a gorilla family. You will also be given a park ranger and guide who will be accompanying you on your gorilla trekking experience. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park takes approximately 3-6 hours, depending on their location. Once you have located your gorilla family, you will get to spend an hour watching and studying them. Have your packed lunch and relax for the rest of your evening. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park- Evening Game Drive

After breakfast, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is approximately a 4-5-hour drive from Bwindi National Park. You will have lunch en route to the park. You will have a stopover for a game drive in Ishasha, which is popular for spotting tree-climbing lions. You will also spot other wildlife animals such as antelopes, Uganda Kobs, leopard, elephants, and buffaloes among others.

Drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise

Have your breakfast early morning before heading out for a morning game drive in Kasenyi Plains. Kasenyi plains are strategically positioned near Lake George with breathtaking views of the lake. Get a chance to spot wildlife such as lions, elephants, kobs, and many more. You will have a break for lunch at your lodge before heading out for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. Enjoy the boat cruise on the Kazinga channel as you look out for bird species such as the red-throated spur fowls, grey-crowned cranes, and the yellow-throated long crows, among others.

Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 10: Transfer to Kibale National Park

Today, you will drive south to the famous Kibale National Park. Stopover for lunch en route to the park. You can have an optional visit to the famous Amabere Nga Nyinamwiru, where you will visit the caves and get to learn more about the historical and cultural heritage of the Batooro people.

Drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Chimpanzee Trek and Bigodi Swamp Walk

After breakfast, drive to the park for a briefing. You will be taken through a set of rules and regulations to follow before heading into the forest in search of chimpanzees. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest can take between 2 and 4 hours, depending on their locations, and you will be given an hour to spend with the chimps.

Return to your lodge for lunch and rest for a while before heading out to Bigodi swamp for a guided walk, where you will get a chance to view several bird species, including the prehistoric Shoebill Stork, Rwenzori Blue Turaco, and others.

Later, return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 12: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park- Visit Top of the Falls

Once you are done having your breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on your journey to Murchison Falls National Park. You will have a stopover for lunch, and once you arrive at the park, you will get a chance to visit the top of the falls, where you will get close to the world’s most powerful waterfalls- Murchison Falls.

Dinner will be served at your lodge.

Day 13: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise

After your breakfast, head out for a morning game drive in the park. You will have an opportunity to view a number of wildlife animals such as lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, giraffes, zebras, kobs, waterbucks, buck bucks, and many more. Lunch will be served at your lodge before heading back out to enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on the Nile. View wildlife such as Nile crocodiles, hippos in the water, and others along the river banks, including elephants, buffalos and waterbucks, among others.

Drive back to your lodge for dinner.

Day 14: Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe

Have breakfast early in the morning and drive out of the park. Stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you will be tracking white southern rhinos. Enjoy a guided trek as you search for the rhinos in their natural habitat. Once you have located them, you will get to spend an hour watching and studying them before heading back to your vehicle. Have lunch and embark on your journey to Kampala with a drop off at a hotel of your choice or Entebbe International Airport in case you have a late night flight out of Uganda.
