Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and drive to Gisenyi, Congo Border.
At an agreed location in Kigali city, our guide will pick you up, welcome you, and transfer you to Congo. You will enjoy your drive to the border watching the rolling hills of Rwanda. On reaching Goma, you will transfer to the grand barrier for check-in at the tourism office, where you will receive your gorilla trekking permit in Congo, Virunga National Park. After, you will be transferred to your hotel in Rumangabo. On arrival, you will have lunch and later on, you will get to participate in the nature walks in the park, which will give you access to a number of attractions like the primates, including the Albertine endemic primates and bird species, and many other rewarding attractions.
Day 2: Mount Nyiragongo hike
On day 2 of the safari, after an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will transfer to the Kibati ranger post headquarters, the starting point for all hikes in the park. While at your briefing point, you will be assigned to a ranger and guide to ensure your safety in the park during your Mount Nyiragongo hike. You will make your way to the top, which will take you between 4- hours. You will have the chance to watch the lava lake at a safe viewpoint. After the experience, you will have your meals at your camp as you wait to descend the next day.
Day 3: Reach the summit and transfer to Kigali
On day 3 of the safari, after breakfast, you will descend Mount Nyiragongo and head back to Kibati at 11:00 am and connect with your guide to transfer you to Kigali city, where you will be dropped off at your hotel for lunch and dinner.
Day 4: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Ihema Boat Cruise.
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location at the Kigali city or Kigali international airport to transfer to Akagera national park where you will arrive in time to embark in the boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, elephants quenching their thirst from the river banks, Crocodiles and many bird species like the endangered shoe bill stork, the king fishers and many other water birds that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Dinner and overnight at Akagera game lodge(mid-range), Karenge bush camp (budget)
Day 5: Full-day Game drive
Rise up early in the morning, have breakfast, and go for a morning game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill especially the big cats like the leopard, lions, and many other carnivores. You will get to watch a number of herbivores like the rhinos grazing within the plains, elephants, gazelle, oribi, and many other rewarding game animals. After the morning game drives, you will head back to your hotel for refreshments and later in the afternoon, transfer to take part in the evening game drive. Get ready to watch how the park comes to life as the sunsets, with a number of predators coming from their hiding spots to catch prey, the herbivores catching their last bite for the day, the crocodiles can be seen sun-basking, and elephants quenching their thirst from the river banks, which will make your safari quite memorable. After an amazing safari, you will make your way out of the park and later be dropped off at a hotel of your choice at Kigali international airport in case you have a flight to catch back home, or dropped off in Kigali city as you may advise.
