Detailed Itinerary for 8 Days Uganda Wildlife, Chimpanzees & Gorilla Safari.
Day 1: Kampala to Murchison falls
You will depart Entebbe International airport and drive to Murchison falls national park. Head to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary 180 km from Kampala. This sanctuary was started in 2005 as a project by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Rhino Fund project as an initiative to build a sustainable rhinoceros population and relocate rhinos back to their original habitat in Uganda’s protected areas. Here you will have a wonderful experience tracking the southern white rhinos. You will have lunch at the rhino sanctuary and proceed to Murchison falls national park arriving late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay Fort Murchison Lodge.
Day 2: Game drive and launch cruise
Early morning breakfast and then go for a game drive where you may spot various animal species like elephants, giraffes, lions, Uganda kobs among others. In the afternoon you will go for a launch cruise on the park’s main tourist attraction the unique Murchison Falls as well as the River Nile with its streaming hippo and serried ranges of crocodile along the sandbanks, as well as large numbers of different species getting down to drink & bathe. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge as above.
Day 3: Murchison – Kibale National Park
Have breakfast and transfer to Kibale National Park with lunch en-route & a stopover in Fort portal town to visit the Amabere G’anyinamwiru stalagmites site with a waterfall and the crater lakes. Proceed to Kibale arriving in the evening. Dinner and overnight at your preferred lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and after transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast you will go for chimpanzee trekking. Kibale Forest National Park is one of the best safari destinations in Africa for chimpanzee tracking. Kibale’s 795km2 National Park contains one of the most beautiful and with the most varying tracts of tropical forest in the whole of Uganda. This is place to a number of forest wildlife, most especially 13 species of primate coupled with chimpanzees. After tracking, have lunch and go for a guided nature walk in the Bigodi wetland area. Later transfer to Queen Elizabeth national Park arriving in the evening. Dinner and overnight at a lodge of your choice.
Day 5: Game drive, and afternoon Boat Cruise
An early morning a game drive in the Kasenyi sector, you may spot various animals like the elephants, Uganda kobs, leopards among others. Return to the lodge for late breakfast, in the afternoon you will go for a launch cruise where you will spot various water animals like Hippos and crocodiles, the cruise will also enrich you with various water birds of riverine and savanna habitats. Dinner and overnight at your preferred lodge as night before.
Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable forest
After breakfast in the morning, you will meet your driver guide to embark on your drive to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park (home of the Uganda Mountain Gorillas). Arrive in time for lunch. Check in to your accommodation. If you are feeling energetic you may go for an optional community tour or cultural visit. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable forest
You are warming up for the gorilla tracking. You will drive further south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is of Uganda´s oldest and most diverse rainforests. The “impenetrable” forest is also home to more than 320 mountain gorillas, 400 species of plants, 120 species of mammals and over 350 species of birds. Certainly one of the most exciting days of your safari; today you will be gorilla tracking. Breakfast will be served early and lunch will be packed. The briefing is at 8 am. Your guide will give you highlights of specific details about the way of life of the gorillas you will be tracking. The hike can take anything from one to seven hours. Once you reach the gorillas, you are allowed to spend one hour with them as you stand 6 meters away. Dinner and overnight at your lodge as above.
Day 8: Transfer to Entebbe.
After breakfast, you will embark on your journey back to Entebbe which lasts for about 8-9 hours. You will have lunch enroute. Arrive in the evening and drop you at your hotel or the airport in time for check in for your flight as you may advise.
