HOW TO GET THERE
By plane: There are three airports in Rwanda: Kigali International Airport, Butare Airport and Ruhengeri Airport. Once you reach Kigali, you can either rent a car and drive down to Lake Kivu or book a bus to travel to Gisenyi. You can also take a bus from Kigali directly to Gisenyi and travel by ferry across the lake from there.
By car: The journey to Lake Kivu from Kigali by car takes about six hours so you should allow plenty of time for your road trip. Once you arrive at Lake Kivu, you will find plenty of hotels and restaurants where you can stay while you are visiting the city.
